2024 has been a year of new and old experiences and a continued effort to further our knowledge as well as others’. This year saw our first private tutoring sessions with enthusiastic veterinarians advancing their ultrasound knowledge with Cooper’s attentive guidance. Over the course of several days these veterinarians had the opportunity to focus on what they wanted to learn and /or perfect skills they already possessed.
Don’t worry, we’re not retiring to teaching full time just yet. We have enjoyed continuing to maintain our relationships with our sports medicine clientele and referring veterinarian friends. Returning to being a single veterinarian practice after many years of working with associates is not without its challenges and we appreciate everyone supporting our move to stop seeing general medicine and emergency cases to focus on our niche. There never seems to be enough time in a day, or days in a week to get everything done, but all one can do is do our best and we would be doing a disservice to try to do it all.
We have enjoyed seeing all our equine friends when they’ve needed it, even when the owners wish they didn’t need us at all, ha ha. Every year brings new faces equine and human and we always look forward to getting to know each and taking the best care that we can to treat each horse like our own.
We have continued our exciting research with Vayu Technologies and their equine motion analysis system with days of data gathering. This exciting technology will benefit horse owners and veterinarians alike with its capabilities.
Cooper’s year has been filled with teaching and travel when we’re not hustling at home. In June he lectured at the meeting of the Equine Spine Initiative in Kentucky. The group is advancing the understanding, diagnostics and treatment options for the horse’s spine and Cooper is on their board.
In October Cooper traveled to Norway to lecture for the Norwegian Veterinary Association and had the opportunity to visit the facility that produces Arthramid Vet in his travels. As many of our clients know this product, a polyacrylamide gel, has shown significant benefits when used for synovitis of joints and tendon sheaths. Therefore, while in Denmark visiting the Contura facility that produces Arthramid, he was able to have his own knee treated with the same product labeled for human use which is still awaiting approval here in the States.
He partnered with Vet PD to lecture in New Jersey in September at Mid Atlantic Equine and South Africa in November. From nighttime safaris to hot air balloon rides at dawn it was quite an adventure, and he extended his stay to make it the trip of a lifetime. Traveling to other regions, and even parasailing over Cape Town, he will have plenty to chat about as we see everyone on his return.
To cap off the year he is presenting a Sunrise Session at this year’s AAEP convention in Orlando among other booth talks.
So that’s a wrap on 2024!
